The biggest car manufacturer, Jaguar Land Rover, has just announced they will hire 5,000 staff to increase its skill base in innovative autonomous and electric technology. 1,000 of these jobs will be electronic and software engineers with the additional 4,000 staff included in manufacturing; most of these will be based in Britain.

This is part of a development program for their new I-PACE electric vehicle being developed  to keep up with consumer demand for greener cars which have improved charge capabilities.

Jaguar Land Rover aims to have half of all its new models available in an electric version by the end of the decade, requiring new staff who have the appropriate skill base for this project.

Jaguar Land Rover said it was looking to hire "the next generation of world-class electronics and software engineering talent" and are enticing them to apply by breaking a code on an reality app created in partnership with the band Gorillaz.

Head of electrical engineering at Jaguar Land Rover Alex Heslop said "As the automotive industry transforms over the next decade, fuelled by software innovation, we have to attract the best talent and that requires a radical rethink of how we recruit. Here we've found an engaging way to recruit a diverse talent pool in software systems, cyber systems, app development and graphics performance. It will be the first of its kind."
